Cost planning
What determines the cost of an East Africa safari?
Safari cost is not one reusable daily formula. The current catalogue combines named accommodation classes, different routes and two honest price states, while the final amount and charging basis are confirmed in writing.
Begin with the price state—not an estimate.
The approved catalogue has two public states: a range attached to a named accommodation class, or On Request. Neither state replaces a quotation prepared for your dates, party and confirmed arrangements.
This page contains no calculator and does not convert currencies, manufacture daily rates or predict supplements. It helps you identify the questions that make a written quotation useful.
Current 26-package catalogue
Two honest ways prices appear.
The counts and states below are derived directly from the approved package pricing records.
16
Published range
At least one named accommodation class has an approved USD range in the catalogue. That range stays attached to that class and is a planning reference; the applicable rate and charging basis still belong in the written quotation.
10
On Request
Neither displayed accommodation class has an approved public numeric range. The label does not explain why or imply a price level; Parrot must confirm the applicable amount and charging basis in writing.
All 16 packages with a published range retain an On Request state for the other accommodation class: 14 publish Camp / Budget, while 2 publish Lodge / Mid-range. No price is transferred between classes.
What to compare
Six factors to discuss without turning them into a formula.
Verified catalogue structure
Accommodation class
The catalogue separates Camp / Budget from Lodge / Mid-range. A published range for one class must never be reused for the other; many packages leave the second class On Request.
Qualified planning guidance
Duration and route
Day counts and routes vary across the approved catalogue. More days can add travel and service components, but the records do not establish a fixed cost per day or a linear price rule.

Country and itinerary structure
Kenya, Tanzania, cross-border and trekking routes have different sequences and arrangements. Use the exact package record and written quotation instead of estimating one route from another.
Confirm in writing
Trip format
Two packages are explicitly group-classified; the others are not automatically private. The catalogue does not publish a group discount, private supplement or per-vehicle rate.
Confirm in writing
Travel dates and party details
Give Parrot the dates and the number of adults and children so the quotation can state who and what it covers. No child rate, free-place rule or seasonal adjustment is inferred here.
Verified package records
Optional activities
Some approved packages name optional activities, but the catalogue does not publish their prices. Confirm availability, inclusion status and any additional cost before adding one.
Canonical package examples
See the real state on the package—not a generated estimate.
These examples reuse the approved title, duration, URL and current price state. Open the full catalogue to compare all 26 journeys and their approved images.

Included services
Ask what the quoted price actually covers.
The approved records repeatedly discuss these service categories, but their wording is not identical across every package. Treat each as a quotation question rather than a universal promise.
- Transport and transfers
- Which road transport, pickups, drop-offs and transfers are specifically included?
- Accommodation
- Which accommodation and how many nights does the quotation cover?
- Meals and water
- Which meals or drinking water are included on each part of the trip?
- Park and entry fees
- Which park, conservation, crater or entry fees are included?
- Guide arrangements
- What guide, driver-guide or mountain team is included?
- Scheduled activities
- Which game drives, park visits or trekking services are part of the quoted itinerary?
Recurring exclusions
Check the exact package before assuming an item is covered.
These categories have direct support in approved exclusion lists. They are not claimed as a word-for-word exclusion on every package.
International flights
International flights are explicitly excluded by some approved records; confirm the exact package and quotation.
Visas and immigration
Visa or immigration costs appear as exclusions in some records; no fee amount or rule is stated here.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance is explicitly excluded in the approved catalogue and should not be treated as part of a package price.
Tips and gratuities
Tips or gratuities recur as explicit exclusions; no amount or tipping rule is published here.
Drinks
Some packages explicitly exclude alcoholic, soft or other drinks. Check the exact inclusions instead of assuming all beverages are covered.
Personal expenses
Personal purchases and expenses recur as exclusions and are not part of the displayed package range.
Optional activities
Optional does not mean included or pre-priced.
Approved records name the examples shown here, but publish no numeric activity price. Ask for availability and additional cost in writing.
- Maasai Village Visit
- Hot-Air Balloon Safari
- Lake Naivasha Boat Ride
- Crescent Island Visit
- Hell's Gate Cycling
- Olduvai Gorge Visit
Cost questions
What can—and cannot—be read from the catalogue.
- Does a published range guarantee my final safari price?
- No. The catalogue shows the approved range or On Request for each accommodation class. Rates are subject to reconfirmation before quotation, and the applicable rate and charging basis must be confirmed in the written quotation.
- What does On Request mean?
- It means the catalogue does not publish an approved numeric range for that accommodation class. It does not mean free, unavailable, premium or inexpensive; request the applicable amount and charging basis in writing.
- Can I estimate a lodge price from the camp range?
- No. Each range belongs to its named accommodation class. If the other class is On Request, its price remains On Request until Parrot supplies a written quotation.
- Are optional activities already included in the package range?
- Do not assume they are. Check the exact package record, then ask the quotation to state availability, inclusion status and any additional cost for each requested option.
- Does a group format have a confirmed price advantage?
- The approved catalogue does not establish a comparative price advantage. It publishes no group discount or private supplement, and no current package is explicitly classified as private.
- Are there published child or family rates?
- No child discount, free-place rule or separate family rate is published in the approved catalogue. State children’s ages and party details, then require the applicable basis in writing.
